Patchouli Essential Oil

Patchouli is a bushy, leafy plant that grows in the shade in tropical forests.  It is a member of the mint family, but its fragrance is not similar to mint in any way.  It is strong, earthy and at some times sweet and others spicy.  The young leaves are harvest, fermented and then distilled.  It is one of the only essential oils that gets better with age as the fragrance profile deepens and changes.  It is one of the oils that was found in Egyptian tombs, still fragrant, fresh and powerful after centuries!

Patchoul has been a long time favorite oil in perfumes and incense making.  And for good reason.  It is an excellent antidepressant, antiseptic, aphrodisiac, deodorant, insecticide and can be mildly sedative.

It is safe to use directly on the skin in small amounts or in your hair after washing and drying.

Patchouli blends well with many oils and can add long lasting fragrance to blends with more top notes.  Blend with bergamot, black pepper, geranium, ginger, lavender, lemongrass, lime, orange, rose, sandalwood.
